Where do the funds go?
Last year, the MA/NH chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association spent 79% of their total expenses on program services and activities, with the rest going to administrative and fund-raising expenses. More than half of the program funds went to Massachusetts based scientists, for a total of $2.7 million in research grants. Other programs include a 24/7 helpline; support programs for individuals, families, and caregivers; training for health care professionals in effective dementia care; as well as advocacy and public awareness campaigns to promote understanding of Alzheimer’s and reduce the stigma that is so often associated with it. About 90% of the chapter’s funding comes from individual and group donations, memorials and fundraisers like the Run For The Memory. That’s why donations like yours are so important. Check out their site to see all the great work they do at http://www.alz.org/MANH/
The national Alzheimer’s Association works in partnership with its affiliated chapters (like the MA/NH) to fund Alzheimer’s care, support, advocacy, and research (both nationally and internationally). It is the world’s largest private funder of Alzheimer’s research. To learn more please check out http://www.alz.org/join_the_cause_use_of_funds_jtc.asp
What if I don’t want to donate online via credit card?
No problem. Check or cash donations can also be made, just let me know and I will email you the donation form. Please make checks in USD payable to: Alzheimer’s Association, and put my name (Jessica Dunn) in the memo.
Do I get a donation receipt for US income taxes?
Yes. Online credit card donations will get an automatic receipt via email. Offline credit card, check and cash donations will receive a hard copy receipt from the Alzheimer’s Association.
Do I get a receipt for Canadian income taxes?
Unfortunately not (unless you also file US taxes). But the good news is that the Canadian dollar has been doing well against the American dollar.
What about donating to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada (ASC) to support your run?
Donations to the ASC will cannot be counted towards my fundraising. The Alzheimer’s Society of Canada and the Alzheimer’s Association are separate organizations, both working on an amazing common goal. By all means, I encourage you to donate to ASC – I just can’t use that contribution towards my run in Boston.
